What Helps Clean Uric Acid From You Body?

Too much uric acid in the body can lead to gout, kidney stones and kidney failure. When your body produces too much, your kidneys cannot excrete enough of it, causing excessive buildup.
  1. Good Diet

    • Your diet is the main contributor to the creation of uric acid in your blood. Avoid or reduce consumption of the following foods high in purines (a nitrogen-containing crystalline solid that is a component of uric acid) to control uric acid: red meat, coffee and caffeine products like cola drinks, sweetbreads, anchovies, sardines, liver, kidneys, brains, mackerel, herring, scallops, pork, poultry, shellfish, fish, mushrooms, spinach, cauliflower, asparagus, beans, peas, lentils, oatmeal, wheat germ and wheat bran.

    Water

    • Drink plenty of water to allow your kidneys to function efficiently and flush out the excess waste. Dehydration causes uric acid and other harmful toxins to build up in your body.

    Dairy

    • Drink skim milk and eat yogurt. These help your body rid itself of uric acid.

    Vegetables & Fruits

    • Eat foods rich in bromelain (a plant enzyme extracted from pineapples) and vitamin C (oranges and lemons). These are good for cleansing uric acid. Consume fruits and vegetable rich in potassium like bananas and avocados.

    Medications

    • Several medications and substances are commonly prescribed to decrease uric acid in your blood plasma: allopurinol, azathioprine, clofibrate, corticosteroids, estrogen, glucose, guaifenesin, mannitol, probenecid and warfarin. Consult your doctor about these and your specific diet recommendations.
