Poor circulation is often called peripheral vascular disease. Many people experience PVD in their senior years, though smoking, diabetes and inactivity can also play into issues with circulation.-

Peripheral vascular disease refers to issues with blood flow in the body because of blockages in the veins and arteries.
Location

According to the American Heart Association, many blockages occur in the arteries that lead to the kidneys, stomach and limbs.
Cause

The blockages are made up of fatty buildup. Eating a high fat diet or having uncontrolled diabetes can factor into the development of circulation problems. Smoking is a particularly bad contributor.
Prevention

Quit smoking as soon as possible, and if you have diabetes, make efforts to control it. Be active and get daily exercise.
Treatment

Peripheral vascular disease is treated using drugs and by altering the diet. A supervised exercise regimen is also necessary to treat poor circulation.
