Side Effects of Anadrol-50

Anadrol-50 is a synthetic hormone similar to the male hormone testosterone. The brand name for oxymetholone, Anadrol-50 is an anabolic steroid approved for treating anemia. It is also taken by some bodybuilders and athletes to improve muscle gain and strength. Many side effects are possible, some dangerous.

    • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Anadrol-50 to treat anemia resulting from a deficiency in the production of red blood cells. This type of anemia may be caused by kidney disease, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or chemotherapy for cancer.

    Common Side Effects

    • Common Anadrol-50 side effects include nausea, vomiting, skin irritation and discoloration, acne, edema, diarrhea and insomnia.

    Gender Effects

    • Men who take Anadrol-50 may experience erectile dysfunction, frequent or prolonged erections, and a reduction in sperm count. Women taking this steroid may develop changes in sex drive, irregular menstruation, scalp hair loss and excessive hair growth elsewhere, and a deeper voice.

    Pregnancy Warning

    • Women who may become pregnant should not take Anadrol-50 because it causes severe birth defects.

    Other Serious Effects

    • Anadrol-50 can worsen certain existing conditions or increase the risk of developing them. These include prostate cancer or enlarged prostate, breast cancer, high cholesterol, and kidney or heart disease. Anadrol-50 has also been linked to serious liver problems.

    Age Considerations

    • Children receiving Anadrol-50 treatment may need examinations every 6 months to check for harmful effects on bone development.
