Natural Help for Acidosis

Acidosis is the term used to describe a situation in which there is an excessive quantity of acid within the tissue fluids of the body. As a result, the concentration of hydrogen ions within the body is greater than average leading to a subsequent drop in pH. Acidosis drains the body's energy reserves, weakening the immune system. It can also lead to cardiovascular damage, chronic fatigue and aching muscles due to lactic acid buildup. Luckily, there are simple, inexpensive, natural treatments for acidosis.
  1. Baking Soda

    • Once of the most common causes of acidosis is development of lowered pH through an excessive loss of bicarbonate, generally as a result of renal disease. The body keeps a natural supply of bicarbonate reserves to help maintain the pH balance of the blood. When these reserves are depleted, acid begins to build up in the system. To help the system readjust, drink 2 cups of water with 1 Tbsp. of baking soda mixed in. Sodium bicarbonate is the technical name for baking soda. It is alkaline by nature and can help to neutralize the excessive acid in the body.

    Water

    • Drink at least eight glasses of water each day to prevent acidosis, as this helps dilute any amount of acid in the system and it helps flush toxins from the system through the kidneys. Combine water drinking with light exercise, such as walking, to help remove acid waste from the body via perspiration.

    Diet

    • Diet can also impact the levels of acid in the body. The typical Western diet is high in foods which cause the body to produce excess acid, such as dairy products, meat and eggs. Eat more foods which create an alkaline dietary response, such as fresh vegetables, fruits and honey. Reduce intake of processed sugar, coffee, soda and baked goods made with refined white flour. These changes can reduce the acid in the body and also improve overall health.
