Levophed Side Effects

Levophed is a medication similar to adrenaline used to treat life-threatening low blood-pressure levels in users. This medication works by narrowing the blood vessels, which in turn forces blood pressure in the body to increase. As with most blood-pressure medications, there are a number of side effects that can occur from using Levophed.
  1. Common Side Effects

    • Side effects associated with this medication include allergic reaction, hives, difficulty breathing, tightening of the chest, rash, and swelling of the lips, tongue and mouth. While these are considered the most common side effects associated with using Levophed, they only affect a small amount of users.

    Severe Side Effects

    • There are also a number of severe side effects associated with using Levophed. These include numbness in the arms and legs, trouble breathing, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, muscle weakness, irregular heartbeat, irregular urination patterns, bluish lips and skin, irritation at the site of injection, sudden headache, vision problems and frequent imbalance. These side effects are also very rare and do not affect a large number of users.

    Important Safety Information

    • Before beginning use of this medication, tell your doctor if you suffer from any of the following ailments: high blood pressure, asthma, overactive thyroid or a sulfite allergy. If you have any of these conditions, you may not be able to take Levephed or may require an adjusted dosage. This medication is listed as FDA pregnancy category C and may be harmful to an unborn baby.

    Usage

    • Always use Levophed exactly as it was prescribed by your doctor and never in dosages larger than what has been recommended on the label. The medication is administered as an injection into a large vein of the body. The procedure should be done by a doctor or nurse in a professional medical setting. Levophen is usually given under emergency circumstances as a last-minute treatment option.
