Femhrt Side Effects

Femhrt is a hormone-replacement therapy comprising the hormones estrogen and progestin. Femhrt side effects are related to increased levels of circulating estrogen. Side effects can range from mild and transient to life-threatening. A person taking Femhrt can treat many of the side effects herself.
  1. Significance

    • Side effects from Femhrt indicate high estrogen levels. Too much estrogen, or estrogen dominance, is a significant risk factor in gynecological cancers and heart attacks.

    Types

    • Common side effects of Femhrt include headache, nausea, vomiting, vaginal irritation, urinary tract infection, joint pain, anxiousness, depressive disorder and heartburn. More rare but serious side effects include stroke, blood clots, liver damage, breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

    Treatment

    • Treatments for most side effects of Femhrt are symptomatic. For example, over-the-counter pain medication should be taken for headache, antibiotics for urinary tract infection, anti-anxiety medication for anxiety and antacids for heartburn. Serious side effects need immediate medical attention.

    Time Frame

    • Side effects from Femhrt generally subside once therapy is discontinued, or once a woman treats the particular ailment.

    Considerations

    • Femhrt side effects occur with variable frequency. Most women tolerate Femhrt well, but alternative treatments are available for those who don't. The medication is only prescribed to women who still have a uterus.
