What is a closed fracture?
A closed fracture, also known as a simple fracture, is a type of bone break in which the skin remains intact and there is no open wound. The bone is broken, but the skin covering the fracture is unbroken. In a closed fracture, the bone ends may or may not be displaced from their normal position. Closed fractures are less likely to become infected than open fractures, as there is no direct connection between the fracture site and the outside environment. Treatment for closed fractures typically involves immobilisation of the affected area using casts, splints, or traction, followed by physical therapy to restore movement and strength.
