Cam Walker Directions
When a foot or ankle injury has occurred or often after surgery, a therapeutic boot, known as a Cam Walker (walking boot) is often used for support. Velcro closures, a heel to toe rocker bottom, and air bladders (which allow adjustment for ankle support), are all components of a Cam Walker. Each section controls the outside and inside of the ankle support, but allows mobility for the foot region to move up and down. It is important to know the proper steps to utilize while wearing this equipment, and ensure the height of the shoe worn on the uninjured foot matches that of the Cam Walker to prevent potential compensation issues caused by imbalance.Things You'll Need

Using a Cam Walker
-
1
Wear a clean cotton sock under your Cam Walker at all times. Ensure your sock is snug fitting to prevent it from slipping down. The sock will protect your skin and aid in keeping your walking boot clean by absorbing perspiration.
-
2
Allow your foot to descend into the Cam Walker, and make sure your heel fits securely in the heel section of the device. Proper fitting is important to provide full support, and avoid accidental falls. Pull the liner across the top of the foot, and repeat on the lower leg.
-
3
Close Velcro straps over the top of the foot, and do the same on the lower leg. Ensure straps are secure to provide as much stability as possible, and prevent the leg and foot from moving around inside your Cam Walker. When straps are in place, the fit should feel comfortable and sans pain from the device.
-
4
Review restrictions, and length of time your Cam Walker is to be worn with your physician. This is best to ensure you are participating in activities that have been approved, and avoid any potential risks of accidental injury or a delayed healing process.
-
5
Wash the liner of your Cam Walker weekly to keep clean. Examine instructions on liner tag for proper care instructions. Run small amount of warm water in sink. Add one tablespoon of liquid soap, and stir. After washing by hand, allow the liner to air dry.
