How to Wear a Super Sling

The Bird and Cronin Super Sling immobilizes the arm and shoulder to promote healing after an injury or surgery to the shoulder. It is lightweight and designed for patient comfort although it provides full and secure immobilization of the arm and shoulder on which it is worn. The Super Sling consists of a compartment to hold the arm, a pillow to hold the arm at a proper position to protect the shoulder, a shoulder strap, and a strap that circles the waist. You wear the sling by positioning your arm in the compartment and then securing it with the straps.

Instructions

    • 1

Detach the shoulder strap from the sling and open its front panel. Place your arm in the sling so that the elbow is as far back as possible. Secure the front panel strap by threading it through the top D-ring that is located above the front panel.

    • 2

Place the shoulder strap securely above the uninjured shoulder (the shoulder of the arm that is not in the sling) and thread it through the middle D-ring. Fasten it so that the end of the strap is at midchest level. Adjust the length of the shoulder strap using the D-ring at the back end of the sling as necessary.

    • 3

Position your thumb through the loop at the top front end of the sling if it is more comfortable for you.

    • 4

Position the pillow at your waistline. Attach the sling to the larger end of the pillow using the adhesive strips on the pillow.

    • 5

Thread the waist strap through the D-ring at the front end of the pillow to fasten it. Use the D-ring at the back end of the pillow to adjust the size of the waist strap so that it fits your waist and is comfortable and secure.
