Instructions for a Sacroiliac Belt

A sacroiliac belt helps to relieve pain in the sacroiliac joint and lower back from sacroiliac injuries that cause either hypo- or hypermobility of the joint. The belt compresses the joints together and helps to prevent them from falling out of alignment. This treatment is a short term therapy that is occasionally used in conjunction with prolotherapy, which is a long term treatment utilizing the body's inflammation response to help heal any damaged ligaments.

Instructions

  1. Proper Positioning and Use

    • 1

Find the top of the leg bones, called trochanters, by placing both hands on the hips and slowly walking to feel for movement.

    • 2

Press the area below the waist on the front of the body to find a bony protrusion called the Anterior Superior Iliac Spine, or ASIS. Once you locate it, take the measuring tape and measure approximately 2 inches above the trochanters and below the ASIS.

    • 3

Position the belt at the measured position and pull it to closed tightly.

    • 4

Pull the two elastic bands on the sides towards the front to ensure a tight fit.
