Is your umbilicus dorsal to spine?

The umbilicus is not dorsal (at the back of the body) to the spine. It is located on the ventral (anterior or front) aspect of the abdomen, just superior (above) to the pubic bone. The umbilicus is the external opening of the umbilical cord, which carries oxygenated blood from the placenta to the fetus during pregnancy. After birth, the umbilical cord is cut and the umbilicus becomes a small, scar-like depression on the abdomen.
