What are the two large groups of bones within skeletal system and what their general functions?
Axial Skeleton
- Includes the bones of the head, neck, and trunk.
- Main function: supporting and protecting the vital organs of the body and providing structural support for the limbs.
Appendicular Skeleton
- Includes the bones of the upper and lower limbs and their supporting girdle( shoulder and hip girdle).
- Main function: allowing for movements to occur. Provides mobility that aids in activities like walking, running, lifting objects,etc.
