The floating ribs are not located in the hip girdles. The hip girdles are the bony structures that connect the legs to the spine and pelvis. The floating ribs are the last two pairs of ribs that are not attached to the sternum in the front of the chest. They are located in the thoracic region of the body, between the shoulder blades and the bottom of the rib cage.
