Why is l 3 good site for lumbar puncture?

The L3-L4 interspace is frequently utilized in adults; L4-L5 in infants; L5-S1 or even below occasionally may be required. The lowest site is used only if higher attempts fail or are contraindicated or are inaccessible as in severe obesity.
