Why is a fixed joint called joint?
Fixed joints are not actually joints in the sense of allowing movement. They are called joints because they connect two or more bones together, just like other joints do. However, instead of allowing movement, fixed joints provide stability and support. They are held together by strong connective tissue, such as ligaments and tendons, and do not have a joint cavity or synovial fluid like synovial joints. Examples of fixed joints include the joints between the bones of the skull and the teeth and the jawbone.
