How to Cushion Crutches
A broken bone is painful, and recovery can be a tedious process if your crutches are not cushioned properly. The cushion padding should be thick enough to cushion contact between your underarms and the crutches and provide the comfort necessary to use the crutches with ease. You may use various kinds of cushioning material. Choose one that is thick enough to support your body weight against the crutches while preventing underarm soreness and blisters.Things You'll Need
- Small, soft bath towels

1
Wrap a small, soft bath towel tightly around the underarm pad of each crutch. Wrap so that the towel's seam is on the lower part of the pad and the towel's smooth part faces the top.
-
2
Secure the towel to each crutch's underarm pad with a pressure-sensitive tape such as duct tape. Stick tape onto the seam side of the towel, and wrap it securely around the towel and pad part of each crutch so that it attaches firmly to the crutch. Continue wrapping until the entire towel is secure.
-
3
Snip off the excess tape on each crutch with scissors, and press the tape's edges to flatten them against the towel.
-
4
Test the crutches for comfort. If a crutch requires additional padding, add another towel in the same manner you used to attach the first towel to the crutch.
