How to Disguise a Plastic Cast

Plastic casts are used in the treatment of bone, tendon, ligament and muscle injuries. Plastic casts can be used to treat injuries of the lower and upper extremities. They are removable, allow you to shower and can often be removed while resting. Although you can remove your plastic cast, wearing it as much as possible can help promote healing. If you are self-conscious or do not want to have to constantly explain your injury to others, there are things you can do to disguise a plastic cast.

Instructions

  1. Arm Casts

    • 1

Wear long-sleeve shirts. Long-sleeve shirts can help to draw attention away from your injury.

    • 2

Opt for baggier shirts. Save form-fitting clothes for when your injury has healed. Wear loose-fitting long-sleeved T-shirts or sweatshirts. This can help disguise the bulkiness of your plastic cast.

    • 3

Match your plastic cast. If your cast is black, wear black or dark-colored clothing. If your cast is a nude color, try to match it to draw attention way from your plastic cast.

    Leg Casts

    • 4

Wear baggy pants. Sweatpants and wide-legged dress slacks or jeans will allow your plastic cast to fit under your pants as opposed to having to wear your cast over tighter-fitting pants.

    • 5

Wear matching socks. If your cast is black, wear a black sock under the cast to avoid drawing attention to your cast.

    • 6

Match your opposite shoe to the color of your plastic cast. If your cast is black, for example, wear a black shoe on the opposite foot.

    • 7

Wear a shoe with a slight heel. A walking cast may cause a slight limp and add back and hip pain if you wear shoes that are too flat. Opt for a shoe with a heel that keeps your legs even and minimizes any tendency to limp.
