How to Get Rid of Knock Knees

Knock knees is a condition where your knees appear to be at an inward angle in relation to your feet. This phenomenon occurs mostly in children under six, but they tend to grow out of it as their body shape changes. Some adults also have the condition which may cause pain depending on how severe it is. There are a lot of factors that go into creating knock knees usually involving your bones and joints and some of these factors are not reversible. However for those that are, often simple methods can remedy the problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Put an insole into your shoes, if your knock knees are as a result of a misaligned foot. An insole may correct your foot position and indirectly correct your misaligned knee joint, which is creating the knock knees look.

    • 2

Wear knee braces. These will only be recommended after you have seen your doctor. Knee braces can encourage a realignment of the knee joint, but they can encourage a degree of dependency.

    • 3

Undertake a strengthening exercise regimen. This would usually be designed by your physiotherapist to strengthen weak muscles, another possible cause of knock knees. Your treatment will focus on the specific muscles that need to be strengthened in order to correct the problem.

Stretch your joints and muscles. Again, your physiotherapist will design an appropriate stretching program that targets the right joints and muscles. When a joint has been misaligned for a long time it can become shortened and stiff. Your physiotherapist will determine which muscles are tight and then design the stretching program accordingly.
