How to Loosen a Knee Ligament Brace
The knee acts a a shock absorber alleviating the force of gravity as you move. The muscles, ligaments and cartilage within the knee form a support system. The ligaments of the knee are commonly injured by twisting sharply or being exposed to a traumatic blow. Because the knee plays such a large role in supporting the body, special precautions must be taken when injuries occur. A knee ligament brace is a common tool used for rehabilitation. Feelings of numbness, tingling, or pinching may indicate the brace is too tight. Loosening the brace may increase range of motion and blood flow to promote healing.Instructions

1
Remove any clothing that is covering the area. Depending on the type of brace and length of recommended use, your health care professionals may suggest you wear a thin sleeve over the area the brace covers to protect the skin. If this is the case, adjust the sleeve so that is in the correct position, flat against the skin.

2
Sit on a firm chair or bench. Chairs with cushioning may distort the angle of your leg causing an improper fit. Scoot forward so that your buttocks area is near the edge of the seat.
-
3
Place your feet flat on the ground. Bend your legs to an 45-degree angle.
-
4
Position the brace so the sides of the brace line up along the mid-line of the limb.
-
5
Adjust the straps of the brace to an appropriate fit. Loosen Velcro straps by lifting them and securing them farther back. Loosen turn adjustments by twisting the adjustment knob counterclockwise. The brace should fit snugly around the limb. Any support pads should be in full contact with your skin or the protective sleeve.
-
6
Move the limb through your range of motion to ensure proper fit. The brace should not pinch your skin. The brace should not move up or down when you move your leg. Look at the sides of the brace. There should be no gaps between the brace and your skin.
