How to Make an Insole on a Heel Lift
Heel inserts are worn for a variety of reasons, not just by those who are "vertically challenged," as is commonly thought. They can support alignment in the feet, legs and back, and can help to correct posture for those who have a slight difference in length between one leg and the other. The heel insert is best used with an insole on top so that it fits more snugly with the foot. Insoles can now be bought from a local pharmacist or supermarket and trimmed to size, but there is plenty of recyclable material lying around the home that will do the job just as effectively.
Things You'll Need
- An old exercise/pilates/yoga mat or some padded cardboard with a currogated middle layer
- Scissors
- Shoes you will wear most often with the heel inserts
- Socks
- Fine felt tip pen
- Tape measure
- Superglue with a thin nozzle
Instructions
-
-
1
Place your insole material (the old exercise mat or the cardboard) on a flat surface. Place your shoes on top.
-
2
Using a fine felt tip pen, draw around the soles of your shoes, onto the insert material, so that you are left with the outline of your shoe.
-
3
Dot plenty of points 3 mm to 4 mm inside of the circumference of this outline. This is to enable you to create an inner circumference that will fit inside of your shoe when you cut it to size.
-
4
Cut the inserts along the guideline of the inner circumference, using the initial outer tracing to help you to keep the shape of the shoe.
-
5
Place the inserts into your old pair of socks, and trim the excess fabric at the back end so that you are left with a cloth-covered insole. You can use a thin line of superglue to bring the fabric together in a neat seam on the back line of the insole (i.e., the part that sits against the back of your shoe).
