How to Strap a Damaged Knee

Strap or wrap a knee to treat an injury or offer support while active. Use an elastic bandage. Elastic bandages can hold the join tight enough to provide necessary support without causing increased discomfort. Re-wrap the knee if the bandage loosens or is too tight. Depending on the reason for wrapping, you may or may not be able to move your knee. If you need to move your knee, like during a sport, do not wrap too tightly around the joint.

Instructions

    • 1

Put the leg on a sturdy surface like the floor. The knee cap should face up.

    • 2

Hold one end of the bandage. Lay the end of the bandage 2 to 3 inches above the knee. Hold the end in place with one hand. You may need assistance.

    • 3

Wrap the bandage around the knee, overlapping each layer. Wrap the bandage snugly, but not too tight. Don't cut off circulation. Wrap the bandage to about 2 to 3 inches below the joint. Wrap the remaining bandage back up the knee. Tuck the end of the bandage in into the top wrapping and add a clip to hold in place. Add another clip to hold the other end down.
