1
Apply an ice pack on the area. As soon as you begin to feel your tendons swelling, place ice in a plastic bag and cover the bag with a towel. Inflammation causes the most problems and by icing the area you are able to reduce the pain. Keep ice on the area for 20 minutes at a time. Be careful not to go longer than that because you can cause hypothermia to the skin.

2
Get some rest. Try not to use the tendon area if at all possible. Give yourself three weeks away from activities that affect the area.
-
3
Use a brace or splint for the area where the tendon is painful. For walking or using your wrists, there are braces and splints that can be either prescribed by a doctor or purchased over the counter at a pharmacy.

Start a physical therapy routine. Many have found that swimming is the perfect low-impact exercise for helping sore tendons. Consult with a doctor before beginning a swimming routine. As slowly as possible, return to an activity that caused the tendinitis. If you begin to feel pain immediately, you know it is time to rest.

Take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicine. These medications consist of Ibuprofen, Motrin, Celebrex and Naprosyn. Take the amount the directions suggest, but ask your doctor if it is appropriate for you for long-term use. Your pain and swelling should subside.
