How to Tape With Acupressure

Acupressure taping, or acutaping, is the process of applying pressure to painful areas of the body using a special tape. Instead of using tape for bandages to immobilize an area of the body, acupressure tape allows you to move the injured area while treating it. The tape is used on such areas as the back, neck, shoulders, legs and arms and promotes blood circulation, reduces pain and decreases healing time.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase acupressure tape at a local drugstore or medical supply shop. The tape should stretch and have adhesive on one side. The tape is normally 2 to 3 inches wide.

    • 2

Measure the painful or sore area on your body where the tape will be placed. Cut the tape in the length needed.

    • 3

Stretch or flex muscles right before applying the tape so muscles are fully stretched. Apply tape to the entire painful area. Don't stretch the tape as you place it on your skin.

    • 4

Leave on your skin for three to seven days. You may shower with the tape in place. Avoid rubbing the taped area and pat dry with a towel.
