Elations for Joint Pain

Elations is a flavored drink made with vitamins and supplements that is supposed to improve bone health. Manufacturers claim that drinking one bottle of Elations daily improves symptoms from joint conditions like osteoarthritis.
  1. About

    • Joints are comprised of bone, cartilage, and synovial fluid. When cartilage or synovial fluid are worn down--as from bone disease, arthritis or age--movement becomes painful and the range of motion decreases.

    Features

    • One 8-oz. bottle of Elations contains 1,500 mg glucosamine, 1,200 mg chondroitin, calcium, and boron. Glucosamine may help to rebuild lost cartilage, and long-term use of chondroitin is thought to reduce inflammation and increase joint mobility.

    Considerations

    • Though Elations itself has not been tested for long-term efficacy regarding bone health, its individual components have shown promise for this purpose. According to a study presented by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, "Glucosamine combined with chondroitin sulfate provided statistically significant pain relief compared with placebo."

    Availability

    • Elations is available in three natural and artificial flavors, which come in liquid or powder form. However, its sugar content may make it unsuitable for diabetics.

    Warning

    • Chondroitin can interact with blood thinners, and glucosamine with anti-inflammatory or blood-sugar medication. It is always advisable to consult a doctor before beginning a new supplement.
