According to the article "Tendinitis" by the staff at Mayoclinic.com, tendonitis is "most common around your shoulders, elbows, wrists and heels." • 1

Refrain from all physical activity for a while. During this time, wear a brace for your joint to limit movement. Take two ibuprofen every four to six hours for inflammation and pain.

    • 2

Put ice in an ice pack. Tie or strap ice pack around your joint and leave it there for 15 to 20 minutes. Reapply ice every three to four hours throughout the day. If possible, keep your joint elevated above your heart as much as possible.

    • 3

Once the initial inflammation has subsided, use a heating pad on your joint several times a day.

    • 4

Perform basic stretching movements on your joint by bending it gently in all directions.

    • 5

Massage the tendon periodically. Massage also increases blood flow and reduces scar tissue. Scar tissue is more apt to cause recurring injuries.
