Symptoms of Joint Pain

Joint pain can affect one or more joints, and it can also be caused by a variety of conditions and injuries to the body, including several types of arthritis as well as bursitis.
  1. Arthritis

    • Arthritis involves the breakdown of cartilage, which protects joints, allowing for smooth movement. Arthritis symptoms include pain, swelling and reduced mobility in the joint.

    Rheumatoid Arthritis

    • Rheumatoid arthritis is a long-term disease that leads to inflammation of the joint and surrounding tissue. Symptoms begin gradually and include fatigue, loss of appetite, weakness and widespread muscle aches.

    Osteoarthritis

    • In cases of osteoarthritis, the cartilage between bones wears away, causing bone to rub against bone. Symptoms are deep aching joint pain, grating joints during motion, increased pain in humid weather and joint swelling.

    Bursitis

    • Bursitis is inflammation of the fluid-filled sac (bursa) between a tendon and bone. Symptoms are joint pain and tenderness, swelling and warmth around the joint.

    Septic Arthritis

    • Septic arthritis is joint inflammation due to a bacterial infection other than gonorrhea. Symptoms come on quickly and include intense joint pain, joint swelling and a low-grade fever.
