What Are the Causes of Right Hip Pain?

Right hip pain can occur in two places on the body. It can occur on the right side of the hip near the upper thigh or it can occur in the groin area where the hip joint lies. Hip pain can be felt in the joint itself or in the tissues around the hip joint which makes hip pain tricky to diagnose.

Arthritis

• One form of arthritis which may affect the right hip is osteoarthritis. This type of arthritis may affect a person who has experienced a fracture of the right hip or right pelvis area.

Avascular Necrosis of the Hip

• According to the Mayo Clinic, when blood flow to the right hip is interrupted, a condition called Avascular Necrosis may occur. Bone tissue dies as a result of the ceased blood flow. Avascular Necrosis usually affects the femur but can occur in other areas of the hip. Patients with this condition may experience pain radiating down the leg.

Bursitis

• Bursitis is a condition that occurs when 'bursa' or fluid filled sacs around tissues and joints become inflamed. The hip is a common place for bursitis to occur. Patients may experience tenderness, stiffness or redness around the joint area.

Lupus

• Patients with disabling joint pain may have a condition called Lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that attacks a person's tissues and causes inflammation. Along with joint paint, patients may experience fatigue, fever, mouth sores and skin lesions.

Hip Fractures

• Hip fractures are common in patients over 65 years of age. Hip fractures are also more common in women because of lost bone density as they age. Patients usually experience severe pain and are unable to bear weight on the affected hip and leg.

Hip Labral Tear

• Hip Labral tears may affect athletes who experience sports-related injuries. The tear occurs on the tissue near your hip joint. Besides pain, patients with Hip Labral tears may experience a catching feeling in or near the joint.
