Tired Legs Syndrome

Tired Legs Syndrome (TLS) is a common problem that starts due to the swelling and weakening of the leg and foot muscles. Also known as varicose veins, this condition can be treated with proper rest and exercise and also by wearing special footwear.
  1. Tired Legs Syndrome

    • Tired Legs Syndrome (TLS) is normally associated with varicose veins or venous insufficiency, and is a treatable condition.

    Symptoms

    • The symptoms of TLS include pain and swelling in legs and ankles, cramps or "charlie horses," pain or burning in the foot and heel, and a heavy feeling in the legs.

    Contributing Factors

    • Many factors can potentially cause TLS. Of them, the most common are age, gender, heredity, posture and occupation, and other hormone imbalances such as estrogen in men and progesterone in women. Pregnant women also often experience this syndrome due to their altered body weights.

    Identification

    • The disease, after awhile, can begin to harm the valves of the vein and finally cause the vein walls to relax and swell with pain. Hence it is important to identify this disorder in its early stages for a better prognosis.

    Prevention

    • If TLS is caused due to poor blood circulation, then simple exercise and brisk walking will help. Doctors also recommend special footwear and supporting stockings that can help relax tired feet, by promoting circulation of the blood from your heart down towards the feet.
