Bulging Cervical Disc Treatment
Cervical herniated disc is a common problem that occurs when one gets involved in a traumatic accident or a bad injury.Though it is a painful condition of the spine, most of the cases can be healed with medication and exercise, while the more severe ones could require a surgery.-
Bulging Cervical Disc or Cervical Herniated Disc
-
The arm pain from a cervical herniated disc is an outcome of the herniated disc material "pinching" or pressing on a cervical nerve, causing pain to be transmitted along the nerve down to the arm. Apart from arm pain, numbness and tingling are commonly present from the arm down into the fingers. Muscle weakness could also emanate from a cervical herniated disc.
Bulging Herniated Disc
-
Unlike herniated discs, these bulging discs occur slowly with time and no pain is experienced until the disc is herniated or comes in contact with and pinches a nerve.
Symptoms of the Cervical Herniated Disc
-
The most common symptoms are the pain in arm muscles and legs. While pain in the arms extends down through the fingers from biceps or triceps causing weakness and ache, a lumbar herniated disc produces leg pain most commonly known as "sciatica"
Treatment for Cervical Herniated Disc
-
Most of the times simple medication and other non-surgical treatments alleviate the pain in the arm. Once the arm pain begins to improve, there really will be no need for further treatments though the weakness and numbness in the arm will take some time to improve.
Surgical Treatment
-
If the conservative medical treatments do not alleviate the pain, microdiscectomy (also known as microdecompression) may be considered as an alternative for treating herniated discs. Other options include laminectomy that is useful in treating cervical- disc problems.
