Bottom of Foot Problems
We use our feet in almost every activity, so it is important to keep them healthy. See a doctor if pain or problems continue or become worse.-
Heel Spurs
-
Usually located on the bottom of back of the heel, bone spurs are an overgrowth of bone. Aging; everyday wear and tear; or repetitive, abnormal motion usually causes them. They can be treated with orthotics, anti-inflammatory medications or by cortisone shots.
Freiberg's Disease
-
Freiberg's Disease involves the death of cells in the bones in the ball of the foot, most commonly in the toe next to the big toe. Repeated stress on the bone usually causes it, leading to pain and swelling.
Plantar Fasciitis
-
Plantar fasciitis is painful inflammation of the plantar fascia, the tissue that runs from the heel of your foot to your toes. Treatment usually includes corticosteroids, night splints or orthotics.
Fallen Arches
-
Fallen arches, which occur when the tendon supporting the arch weakens or is injured from years of wear and tear. The arch will become lower and painful, and arthritis of the foot and ankle may set in, along with other problems, such as tendinitis and bunions.
Heel Fissures
-
Heel fissures occur when the skin of the bottom of the heel becomes hard and dry. Cracks and deep fissures can occur. Moisturize your heels on a regular basis and wear socks over your moisturized feet when you sleep.
