Guide to Using a Pedal Exerciser

A pedal exerciser, or mini cycle, is an easy and convenient piece of equipment that provides low impact exercise for your arms and legs by allowing you to "bike" without leaving the comfort of your chair. You can pedal your arms or legs while watching your favorite television show or movie. The products range from simple, inexpensive models to more expensive mini cycles.
  1. Easy To Use

    • The exercisers are small and lightweight and can be easily transported and stored. They even can be used in your office for a quick workout at your desk. Using a pedal exerciser helps improve circulation, range of motion, heart rate, strength, coordination, toning leg thighs and calves along with helping cardiac and pulmonary patients improve endurance. The pedal exercisers are safe and easy to use, and they are suitable for senior citizens.

The pedal exercisers measure approximately 20 by 15 by 9 inches. Some assembly may be required. Once you have assembled the pedal exerciser, adjust the tension knob for proper resistance.

    Leg Exercises

    • Using the pedal exerciser regularly can help tone your legs and arms. For leg exercises, place the pedal exerciser on the floor in front of a chair or bed. Put your feet into the pedal straps with the straps on top of your feet.

Begin by rotating the pedals forward. Start with five minutes of forward rotation. Then, reverse the direction, and move the pedals backward five minutes. Work up to 10 minutes or longer in each direction.

    Arm Exercises

    • For arm exercises, place the pedal exerciser on a table and sit in front of it. Hold on to the pedals with your hands. Push the pedals forward for five minutes and then reverse the direction. Work up to 10 minutes or longer each way.
