Bruised Bone Pain Relief
A bruised bone can be extremely painful, especially when it involves the feet and ankles. Weight-bearing bones may suffer such bruising and can cause difficulty walking or standing. But regardless of the location of a bruised bone, some pain relief is possible utilizing a few simple steps.-
Rest
-
Rest the affected area. And try to avoid placing your full weight on a bruised heel, foot or ankle bone. Don't walk on it or don't use it if you can help it. If you must walk, use a cane or crutch to help with your mobility.
Ice
-
Ice compresses often help with pain relief, as ice reduces swelling caused by bruised, battered or torn blood vessels. For bone bruises in the heel, try to pad the affected area to help protect it from further injury.
Elevate
-
Whenever possible, elevate the affected area to help reduce swelling, which in turn reduces pain. Lift an injured limb above heart level, and avoid using an injured hand, foot, arm or leg as much as possible. For bone bruises on the ribs or shoulders, immobility is the key to pain relief.
