Frozen Shoulder Remedy

There is no quick cure for the frozen shoulder. Most treatment forms consist of a long and painful physical therapy program, plus medication to reduce the pain. Any treatment is more for management of the problem in the initial phase, followed by a slow exercise program.
  1. Exercise

    • Exercises include slow stretching movements that help to relieve your stressed-out muscles and increase your joint movement. The loss of muscle mass has to be minimized, and treatment aims to ensure that you regain movement in the shoulder in an efficient and safe way. A therapist should supervise all exercise.

    Therapy

    • Along with the exercises, you may be given rehabilitation in the form of ice, moist heat and ultrasound. Providing moist heat helps relax the muscles, making them more pliant and easily stretched and promoting faster recovery. However, exercise is essential for the frozen shoulder treatment. While the main stretches should be done in the presence of the therapist, you can do light exercise throughout the day to ensure mobility.

    Surgery and Cortisone

    • Cortisone injections can help reduce the inflammation of the shoulder and allow healing to take place faster. The injections also help reduce the pain caused by exercises. If none of the treatments work, the patient may have to undergo surgery, during which adhesions that cause the frozen shoulder are removed.
