Stretching the Groin Muscle
The adductor muscles in the inner thigh constitute the groin. These muscles keep the legs stable and help to maintain balance. Keeping them flexible and loose is essential to preventing injury . Stretching the groin effectively is accomplished with a few simple exercises.-
Basic Groin Stretch
-
This stretch is the best for focusing on the groin. Sit on the ground and spread your legs as wide into a split as possible. Toes should point up to the sky with the buttock firmly under the torso. By leaning forward as far as possible, tension should be felt in the groin muscles on both sides. Lean to the center, then to each side, trying to deepen the stretch with each breath.
Butterfly Stretch
-
Sitting on the floor, bring both feet together with the knees bent out to the side. The soles of the feet should be touching each other with the knees looking like wings. Use the hands to create resistance by holding the ankles and using the elbows to press down on the knees. The torso should be kept straight while folding over toward the ankles.
Proper Stretching
-
It is common for many athletes to have powerful groin muscles. With strength, many sacrifice flexibility, which increases the likelihood of injury. Stretching before a workout will prepare the groin for strenuous activity. Stretching the groin after activity will help cool the muscle down and prevent excessive tightening. Additionally, working to increase the length of the stretch will add flexibility and improve muscle health. When stretching, breathe in deeply going into the stretch, hold it and release the breath. Don't push the stretch into pain, but stretch as far as possible, trying to go farther with each breath. Don't rock, as this may strain the muscle.
