Plantar Faciitis Symptoms

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammatory condition that affects the bottom of your foot, where there is a large band of tissue called the plantar fascia (see "Resources" below). Many factors can cause plantar fasciitis, including being overweight and having other foot problems such as flat or very high arches. Men over 40 years old tend to experience plantar fasciitis more often than women. The good news is, the symptoms are highly treatable.
  1. Sharp Pain

    • A sharp pain, most often in the heel is one of the most common symptoms of plantar fasciitis. Pain is most evident when walking.

    Constant Ache

    • A dull, yet constant aching is a symptom of plantar fasciitis in most people. The ache may continue throughout the day even after you have stretched your muscles.

    Timing

    • Pain is worst early in the day after a night's sleep or after other times of rest due to normal tightening of the fascia.

    Swelling

    • Some people experience swelling of the foot in the area of the fascia as a symptom of fasciitis.

    Redness

    • You may notice the sole of your foot is slightly red due to the inflammation of the fascia.
