Neck Pain & Stiff Neck Treatment

A stiff neck and neck pain can wreak havoc on quality of life and be debilitating if allowed to continue for too long. Fortunately, there are many treatments out there that are non-invasive and can bring fast relief, often permanently.
  1. Chiropractic

    • A chiropractor may be able to provide relief from neck pain and stiffness by manipulating the spine and taking pressure off of sensitive areas.

    Massage

    • If the problem is muscular, a massage therapist may be able to work out stiff muscles, relieving pain by eradicating tension. The most benefit comes from regular massage, though one session may provide some aid.

    Acupressure

    • Many people find relief of their ailments with this Chinese therapy, in which pressure is placed on the acupoints of the body to help relieve pain or illness in certain areas.

    Yoga or Stretching

    • Simple stretches or yoga poses can help to release tension from muscles, joints and the spine itself. As a beginner, start slowly, don't push too hard, and remember to breathe slowly and deeply.

    Heat Therapy

    • Regularly using a heating pad or wearing a heat patch can work to release tension, thereby eradicating pain and stiffness.

    Medication

    • Over-the-counter medications such as Advil (ibuprofen) and Aleve (naproxen) can help neck pain and stiffness by dulling the pain and reducing inflammation. Your doctor may prescribe something stronger if these medications do not provide relief.
