How to Make a PVC Walking Stick

PVC (Polychloroethanediyl) is a widely used plastic polymer that is cheap and durable. These steps explain how to make a strong walking stick from PVC.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • 1-inch diameter PVC pipe long section (length determined in step 1)
  • 1-inch diameter PVC pipe short section for handle, 6 inches long
  • 1 1-inch diameter corner piece (hub piece)
  • 2 cane tips
  • Sandpaper
  • Purple primer
  • PVC cement

      Determine the length of PVC pipe needed for the main piece by measuring from the floor to your wrist with your arms hanging loosely at sides. Purchase this pipe to length and gather all supplies.

      Sand off PVC ends using sandpaper. Apply purple primer to the hub pipe fittings and let dry.

      Apply PVC cement to hub pipe fitting and push in long PVC section while twisting a quarter turn. Hold for 1 minute until glue hardens.

      Apply PVC to other end of hub and push in the shorter handle PVC pipe. Hold for 1 minute until glue hardens.

      Attach cane tips to both ends of the walking stick using a small amount of cement.
