Hip Problems & Symptoms

Hip problems can result from a variety of causes including injuries, degenerative diseases and bone problems. The symptoms of hip problems depend on the extent of the injury to the bones and may vary with personal tolerances for pain. People with hip pain that gets worse or changes should be evaluated by a doctor to prevent worsening of their condition.
  1. Rheumatoid Arthritis

    • Rheumatoid arthritis is a condition that attacks the the body's joints and its symptoms include joint pain and swelling.

    Osteoarthritis

    • Osteoarthritis is the degeneration of the body's joints, resulting in inflammation and swelling and commonly occurs in the hips, knees and spine.

    Bursitis

    • Bursae are sacs filled with fluid located between the joints, and when inflamed can cause pain during movement.

    Dislocation

    • Dislocation of the hip joint happens if the end of the femur is forced out of its normal position and can result in intense pain, swelling, discoloration and an inability to move the joint.

    Fracture

    • A fracture is a crack in a bone and can result in an inability to bear weight, intense pain, redness or bruising, swelling and stiffness in the hip.

    Labral Tear

    • A tear in the cartilage that lines the hip joint is called a labral tear and can cause pain, clicking of the joint and a limited range in movement of the hip.

    Injury

    • Exposed bone or blood coming from the hip or the area around the hip may be caused by traumatic injuries and requires emergency medical treatment.
