Home Remedies for Plantar Fascia

Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. There isn't much your doctor can do about it, but there are a couple of home remedies you can try.
  1. Identification

    • If you mainly have pain right after you get up in the morning and when you take your first few steps after sitting for a while, you may have plantar fasciitis.

    Significance

    • Plantar fasciitis is a strain of the plantar fascia. That's the band of connective tissue that runs from your toes to your heel and supports your arch.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Rest, ice, stretching and wearing cushioned shoes with a supportive arch will help heal your plantar fasciitis. To prevent it in the future, try wearing a heel cup. Whether you have problems with both heels or not, wear a heel cup in each shoe, not just one.

    Time Frame

    • Even if you implement all the home remedies for plantar fasciitis, it will still take at least a few weeks to heal. If you're overweight and/or you stand a lot at work, it may take significantly longer.

    Warning

    • You should see a doctor for a definitive diagnosis. If you have continuous foot pain that doesn't abate after the first few steps or grows increasingly worse, you may have a more serious injury.
