1
Determine how far down you want the swing to hang from the ceiling. This will change how much space the swing requires. Most platform swings hang between two and three feet off of the ground.
-
2
Tape the top of the rope to the ceiling to test the swing of the platform. Calculate the swing of the platform by swinging the rope as far as possible out in a circular motion. For six feet of rope the swing can travel in a six foot circumference. The Consumer Product Safety Commission also recommends an additional six foot buffer from the swing to all other objects or walls.

3
Mark the placement spot on the ceiling with a pencil. Locate the nearest ceiling joist with a stud finder. Drill a large hook into the ceiling joist and attach the "S" hook. Tie the ropes securely to the "S" hooks.
-
4
Attach the swing to the ropes. Swing it around one final time to ensure the swing will not bump into walls, objects or windows. If you are not happy with the placement, you can move it to a different location.
