Why does the brain need rest?

During sleep, the hippocampus consolidates these memories, which means that they are moved from the hippocampus to other parts of the brain where they can be stored long-term.
* To regulate emotions. Sleep helps to regulate our emotions. When we are sleep-deprived, we are more likely to feel irritable, angry, and sad.
* To improve cognitive function. Sleep helps to improve our cognitive function, including our attention, memory, and decision-making skills.
How much sleep do we need?
The amount of sleep we need varies from person to person. Most adults need around 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Children and teenagers need even more sleep, around 9-10 hours per night.
What happens if we don't get enough sleep?
If we don't get enough sleep, it can have a number of negative consequences, including:

How can we improve our sleep?
