1
Eliminate the cause of the pinched nerve. You might need physical therapy, rest or surgery to remove what is creating pressure on on the nerve. If the nerve remains pinched, it will not get the nutrients to heal.
It is also important to prevent permanent damage. If the nerve has experienced severe necrosis, it might never fully heal.

2
Rest the injury. Don't do exercises or activities such as running or lifting that strain the lumbar region. It can take up to 18 months to heal the nerve completely.
-
3
Take herbal supplements that promote nerve function and health. These include valerian root, licorice, St John's wort and ginger. Take these up to three times daily to provide the nerves with the nutrients needed to heal.

4
Take a B vitamin complex daily. B vitamins help nerve conduction and have been shown to help heal damage from carpal tunnel syndrome.
