Immediate and aggressive treatment is necessary. Although the virus can only live for a short time, disinfecting meningitis on surface areas and places that may have been contaminated is necessary.

      Prepare a solution of 1/4 cup bleach with one gallon of warm water.

      Wash all surface areas. Countertops, bookcases, headboards, doorknobs, light switches, refrigerator, etc.

      Wash all objects that have been touched by the individual with meningitis. Books, toothpaste, dish soap, etc.

      Launder all sheets, pillowcases, bedspreads and any dirty clothes that may have been contaminated.
