Siatic Nerve Remedy

Sciatic pain, also known as sciatica, is a condition that occurs when there is inflammation in the sciatic nerves. The symptoms may vary from a burning sensation to a painful shooting pain that radiates from your lower back down your leg. There are several remedies to effectively treat this condition.
  1. Home remedies

    • It is very important when you begin to experience pain to stay off of your feet. If you put pressure on the sciatic nerve by walking, standing or moving it causes irritation that can increase the inflammation and the severity of the pain. The first few days you will need to rest as much as possible to prevent further irritation.
You can relieve some pain by soaking in a warm bath. It is important that the bath is not to hot and you are not using heating pads because heat does not reduce inflammation and the swelling remains high. In contrast, ice is a great way to reduce inflammation. You can apply an ice pack on the lower part of your back and any other painful areas. You should leave the ice pack on for twenty minutes several times throughout the day to help reduce swelling. You can also use Mineral Ice to soothe the painful areas as well as reduce inflammation.

    Anti-inflammatory

    • Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs may be helpful to reduce pain and inflammation of the sciatic nerve. Over-the-counter medication will only effectively reduce the pain in milder cases. You may need a prescription medication in moderate to severe cases of sciatica. Medication should be your last resort. Anti-inflammatory drugs are helpful in reducing pain and inflammation but it is very important to stay off of your feet as much as possible for the first few days. These drugs will give you pain relief in a short time frame. How it actually works is by masking your pain while working to reduce inflammation. Commonly when the pain is gone patients return to walking and other daily activities and they may worsen their sciatica.

    Chiropractor

    • Chiropractic treatment is an effective remedy for sciatica. You will be given ice packs to reduce the inflammation. You will receive a massage to promote healthy circulation and a back adjustment to align your spine. You will need to rest after chiropractic therapy. Your doctor may give you low-impact exercises and stretches to loosen up your muscles.
