How to Raise Money for Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy affects between 2 and 4 out of every 1,000 live births, according to the Mayo Clinic. Many people choose to raise money for cerebral palsy research and support. Finding the best plan for your fund-raising venture is almost as important as the event itself.

Instructions

    • 1

Research some of the other successful fund-raisers that have been run in your community. Your fund-raising event will be more successful if you emulate what other people have done before you when they were raising funds for a cause.

    • 2

Determine the best day and time for your fund-raising event. Check with your local chamber of commerce to determine what other events are going on in your community, and plan your event during a time when the community does not already have something planned. Remember the goal is to get as many people to donate money as possible. If there is nothing else going on in the community, you have a better chance of more people participating.

    • 3

Speak with local businesses about sponsoring your event. Sponsors can help offset any costs associated with running the event and may help with advertising your event within the community.

    • 4

Advertise your fund-raising event well in advance. Placing newspaper and radio ads along with putting flyers up around the community will ensure that people know when and where your event is taking place. Make sure all your advertising includes information telling people that you are trying to raise money for cerebral palsy.

    • 5

Pay all operating costs and then send a check for the money raised to the cerebral palsy organization you raised money for.

    • 6

Ask the local newspaper to run an article or announcement that informs the community how much money was raised and donated. Making sure the community knows how much money was raised---and where that money went---will build trust with the community.
