1
Eat a healthy diet. Proper nutrition is crucial to optimal brain function. The brain needs a lot of nutrients and vitamins to be able to function at its best. Eating foods high in essential fatty acids, such as salmon and other types of fish, will help your brain function better. Non-processed cocoa will also boost mental alertness because of its high levels of theobromine and flavonoids.

Get proper rest. Sleep is critical to mental functioning. Studies have shown that sleep is crucial for survival. Sleep deprived rats, for instance, only live for about three weeks, instead of two to three years, which is the average. Sleep deprivation causes drowsiness and inability to concentrate, which are symptoms of brain fog. Getting seven to eight hours of sleep a night will help to prevent brain fog.

Talk to your doctor. This is especially important if you are currently taking any medications, since brain fog can be a side effect of prescription medicine. Brain fog can also be a symptom of a variety of conditions, including hypoglycemia, chronic fatigue syndrome and food allergies. Your physician will be able to help you rule out any physical causes of mental haziness, and treat any underlying conditions.
