The human brain is the most complicated organ of the human body and is responsible for many traits such as personality, emotions, language, thoughts and the ability to maintain memories. A fascination with understanding the complexity of the brain has provided us with many facts.

    • Although an adult human brain weighs approximately three pounds, it is one of the body's largest organs.

    Significance

    • The brain is responsible for personality traits, the ability to think, learn, move, hear, see and controls other body functions such as breathing, sensing, digestion and behavior.

    Composition

    • The human brain consists of a Jello-like mass of fat and protein, containing as many as 100 billion neurons, or nerve cells and millions of nerve fibers.

    Parts of the Brain

    • Two separate sections make up the human brain: the cerebrum and cerebellum. The cerebrum is the largest and is further divided into two halves, also referred to as hemispheres.

    Function

    • Every section of the human brain has a specific function and while awake, generates energy capable of lighting a light bulb.

    • A common misconception regarding the human brain is that consuming less than six glasses of water a day will result in shrinking of the brain.
