Identify Transient Ischemic Attack
-
1
Check to see if there is numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg. This will usually only be on one side of the body. As the brain is a large organ, a TIA may not affect an entire side of the body, just parts like the arm, face, or leg.
-
2
Check to see if vision is affected. This can be trouble seeing things from one or both of the eyes.
-
3
Check to see if there is any sudden confusion. This can include trouble speaking or understanding things that are being said.
-
4
Check for a loss or coordination. This can include the person losing balance, getting dizzy, or having difficulty walking.
-
5
Check to see if the person has a sudden severe headache. This headache will most likely have no known cause.
-
6
Remember that these symptoms can signify other medical conditions including migraines, seizures, or some cardiac conditions. Also remember that symptoms of TIA and stroke are identical. The difference between the two is that a stroke is permanent. DO NOT wait to see if the symptoms go away. If you experience any of the above symptoms, contact a medical professional immediately.
