Aircast Instructions

An Aircast, commonly used to treat sprained and broken ankles and foot fractures, is an alternative to traditional plaster casts. Aircasts have several advantages over other casts: they provide the same support, but can be removed for exercise and therapy. This prevents the stiffness and muscle atrophy associated with other casts and actually increases healing time. The Aircast has become more popular in recent years, as several high-profile athletes have been seen wearing one.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on an absorbent sock (included with the Aircast).

    • 2

Open the brace by detaching and loosening the Velcro straps.

    • 3

Reposition the height of the air cell by detaching it from the heel pad, inflating it with the included hand bulb pump and firmly reattaching it.

    • 4

Insert your foot into the Aircast, lining the sides of the brace up with your ankle.

    • 5

Retighten the Velcro straps so that the brace fully supports your foot and heel without cutting off circulation.

    • 6

Put on a lace-up sneaker over the Aircast.
