How to Disguise a Walking Cast

Casts are used to immobilize, reduce pain and swelling, and allow for healing of bone and muscle injuries. Walking casts can take on two different forms: A walking cast may be a fiberglass cast that you are permitted to bear weight on; or a walking cast may take the form of a removable plastic boot that is often gray or black. Regardless of the type of walking cast you have, walking casts can be unsightly and raise many questions regarding how you injured yourself. Fortunately, there are ways to disguise your cast and draw less attention to your injury.

Instructions

Choose a neutral color. If you will be wearing a fiberglass walking boot, opt for a color that matches a majority of your wardrobe. Avoid bright, neon colors and opt for a dark blue, black or white cast.

Wearing shoes that don't have much of a heel is a good idea.

Wear a low-heeled shoe on your healthy foot. Walking casts are often elevated a couple of inches off of the ground. This will cause you to limp while you walk. Using a low-heeled shoe on your other foot can help you to walk evenly. This can also reduce hip and lower back pain caused by your walking cast.

Wear a shoe that is the same color as your cast on your opposite foot. Matching colors will draw less attention to your feet. If wearing a plastic removable boot, wear socks underneath that match the boot. For example, wear black socks to match a black boot.

Wear looser fitting pants. Opt for pants that your cast can go underneath opposed to on top of. A wider-legged pant should do the trick.
